Travel Time, Time Crunches

Every once in awhile I will have a few of last minute shoots pile up on me, somehow they always fit together like a puzzle (cliché yea yea). Okay I admit, it’s not that crazy of a schedule, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction. For the next couple of days I’ll be traveling, and shooting, and traveling, editing, fun fun fun.

I am currently on a Badger Bus from Madison to the Milwaukee airport. Today is a travel day, but really, about 12 hours in total to get from once place to another. Here is my schedule…

January 27th:
10:00 am – 11:55am –Bus from Madison WI to Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee, WI
11:55am-2:05 – check in for plane and all that jazz
2:15pm- 3:00pm – fly to Chicago
3:18pm – 6:30pm – fly to Philadelphia
7:11-pm – 7:28pm – train from Philly to 30th street station
8:45pm – 9:45pm – train 30th Street station to Hammonton, New Jersey
There was an hour time change somewhere in there, but you get the idea

Long days, fun times. The most difficult part is packing efficiently and being prepared. My restrictions (for the fly out) are two bags that are under 50 pounds, a backpack, and a carry-on item. I am a small guy, so the two 50 pound bags really kill me when I get to the train station, but the rad cap guys usually helps me out. Anyway, here is a list of what I’m bringing:

Pelican 1650
2x Alien Bee 800s
an Alien Bee 1600
Canon 5D
Canon 85mm 1.8
Canon 50mm 1.8
Canon 17-40L 4.0 w/ lens hood
Canon 580EX
3x Pocket Wizard Transceivers
PC to hot shoe
giant Paul C. Buff octabox and large Paul C. Buff softbox diffusion screens
10 and 40 degree grid
flag fabric
gels
bunch of random gadgets to attach gels and accessories
remote shutter trigger

SKB ATA Deluxe Golf Travel Case

A Paul C. Buff heavy-duty light stand
2x Morris Co backdrop stands, used for light stands as well
Westcott Fast Flag Collapsible Frame
giant Paul C. Buff octabox
large Paul C. Buff softbox
2x shoot through white umbrellas
Monopod
Paul C. Buff boom arm
face wash, socks, underwear, and shirts

My duffel bag carry on
3x 15′ extension cables
3x flash cables
2x sync cables
3x 7″ silver rim reflectors
boom arm swivel
grid for the large softbox

My backpack
Macbook Pro
batteries and more batteries
20 fruit leathers

….I may have forgotten a few items, but you get the gist of it
I really encourage anyone who is flying for a shoot to pick up a SKB golf case, perfect for light stands, and are very light themselves. A little extra perk, built in TSA accepted locks, right on.
